Times Are A’Changin… PDF Print E-mail

Volume 1, E-Edition #3, May'09.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of the junk mail that lands in my in-box every week.  My advise is to create a separate email account (or accounts, as is my case) and start giving out this alternate email address to people who haven’t earned invitation to your most coveted personal and business contact list.  This works fine for me…I only have to look through the screened/public accounts when I am ready for abuse...and to research the select gems that are hiding in the spam. I make sure this happens when I have a laptop on my outdoor patio and a drink in my hand.  Try it.

Continued from previous, Times Are Changing...

The national depression is affecting all of us.  Some clinically, others financially. As W.Somerset Maugham writes...Confidence is a razors edge. (He was a survivor of the first great depression). Tech solutions that save companies money, or expenses...are in demand. Residential construction and Retail is not.  I talk to people every day, as part of my biz outreach and the general consensus is that business volume and dollars spent is down about 30 to 40%...a significant drop, but not disastrous, if you can lower expenses or re-prioritize strategies. Some industries are hit harder than others (Construction down 60+%).  Coming from the latter market, I have a particular affinity for my friends and associates who are struggling to find remodel projects that pay a living wage, or have budgets over $5,000 for a home addition.    I am fortunate to have a strong technology and digital marketing background and am able to reinvent myself again (haven’t we all done that to some degree) to offer my expertise and consultation… to those in need.  This will get better.

After four years as Executive Producer of Rapid Remodel TV, the market has hit us hard and remodel jobs dried up.   We needed to transfer our complimentary skills, extensive digital video equipment and thousands of hours of production experience into something that actually pays. (Who knew that we would end up with more editing/shooting experience that guys with 20 years in the business!) Securing syndication last summer (2008), of our first fourteen 30 minute episodes on Comcast On-Demand network, was a coup, a blessing and...anti-climatic.   Our friends at Comcast kept the show running for three extended releases…it stopped airing on June 1st, 2009….9 months past the original pull date.  Response was great, but the requests for application, all mention that “no budget exists,’ or “we love your show and we are behind on our mortgage...can you build us a new addition for free!”

We had difficulty making money at this, in a good economy…

It has become obvious...Time to do something different…
